The A.V. Club Scott Tobias
Like a proper action sequel, it's bigger, louder, and sillier than its predecessors, but it's more streamlined, too, smartly dumping the tired underground racing angle in favor of a crisp, hugely satisfying "Ocean's Eleven"-style heist movie. more
Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman
High-octane trash, but you will go "Ohhhhhh!" more
Time Richard Corliss
The picture delivers the high-octane, testosteronic goods of a warm-weather smash, and maybe the first great film of the post-human era. It's just a shame that every theater showing this nonstop auto race, this animated car-toon, can't be a drive-in. more
Chicago Reader Michael Wilmington
Dwayne Johnson hops aboard as a stern U.S. agent hot on Diesel's trail, and the whole thing progresses to one of the looniest heists of all time. The result is the most exciting, visually jazzy, and absurd entry in the series. more
The New York Times Manohla Dargis
In a free-for-all like this, where the laws of gravity and dictates of narrative logic are left to eat dust, it doesn't matter when anything takes place or why. more
The Hollywood Reporter Megan Lehmann
Big crashes, lithe women and roiling testosterone, not to mention the addition of The Rock as a fire-and-brimstone federal agent  there's plenty to pull in the (mostly) young male audience. more
Boxoffice Magazine Pete Hammond
Features some of the most exhilarating action sequences the screen has seen in years. more
San Francisco Chronicle Mick LaSalle
It's a movie for audiences who think exuberance in movies is more important than sense or logic and who can laugh at a movie and like it at the same time. more
Washington Post Sean OConnell
It delivers the most entertaining "Fast and Furious" adventure while also getting 2011's summer movie season off on the right lead foot. more
USA Today Claudia Puig
Inventive action sequences, deft stunt work and breathtaking cinematography make for revved-up fun. more

This series is not one of the best in the world. This movie isnt going to be the biggest blockbuster of summer 2011. No one is going to win an oscar from this. That said this movie was fun. In fact one of the more fun movies in the franchise. I am not sure if it was The Rock looking like he was just having too much fun or the extremely cute Jordana Brewster or even a very out of shape but still charming in his way Vin Diesel, the movie was a nice fun ride with the right humor, the right action. Not original in the least but a good popcorn flick to start off the summer. more

Fast Five is definitely the most well made movie in the series and it's undoubtedly awesome, but sometimes it just doesn't feel like Fast and the Furious. There's a certain goofy quality about the series that makes it so enjoyable and not just a dumb car movie; that seemed to be missing here. Now that's not a bad thing, but I certainly missed the atmosphere at times. Luckily, Fast Five delivers in every other department. Vin Diesel has never been better; his shaved gorilla strength, brutish mannerisms and one-liners are unmatched here. Paul Walker also did a nice job here and plays off the... more

Fairly disappointing, over long and actually slightly dull new (and hopefully last) chapter in this chav racer franchise, amazing it has lasted this long really but the films have been a roller coaster of quality for me. First film was a boy racer flick complete with dumb neon underside lighting, second film was abit of a rehash with an added undercover element and colourful new street racer characters which wasn't too bad, third film was a straight to the shops deal which many didn't like BUT is actually by far the most superior of the franchise due to the excellent and very realistic... more

I actually told myself after having seen the 4th movie in the franchise (The Fast and the Furious 2009) on a trans-pacific flight that I was done with the F&F movies having seen all of them with a certain degree of guilt and shame. It was kind of a turd in that many of the truly awesome (real) car stunts were replaced with really cheap looking CGI and the already incredulous story line had become out and out ludicrous (no pun intended). But after reading the slew of positive reviews for Fast 5 and with my Fandango Groupon of the verge of expiration I marched down to the box office and... more

Fast Five star! The series has gone full circle and this one breathes new life into the series which got stronger with the 4th installment and is bettered by this one! We have even more of the cast from the earlier films including Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson from the second. Not too mention another surprise cameo after the credits to hint at a 6th film! This one goes from street racing to heist film, but there are plenty of big stunts, fights, sexy girls, humour, cool soundtrack and of course a range of awesome cars. I love that there are so many ties with the cast and events to the... more

It's the most unrelenting and most furious piece of the action yet. It's literally the best film in the series. An explosive and adrenaline-charged action-packed thriller. It delivers the best action in the series with gun-fights, fist-fights, foot-chases and car crashes, delivering exactly what we want. A tough, stylish and hard-boiled flick. It's smart, suspenseful, pulse-pounding and utterly heart-stopping. A very cool and wickedly entertaining action ride that's just exhilarating. The gang is all here and this time they brought some old and new friends. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are... more
