Stepping into sacred shoes once worn by Kevin Bacon, Wormald handily owns the role for a new audience. Same goes for a terrific Miles Teller (Rabbit Hole) in the sidekick role of Willard so memorably originated by the late Chris Penn. more

Brewer, who spent most of his childhood in Memphis, is one of the few contemporary filmmakers I know of who can make movies about the South without sentimentalizing it, glorifying it or looking down on it. more
Tampa Bay Times Steve Persall
Wormald won't make anyone forget Bacon, but he dances better, and without a stand-in. Hough's dance ability is well-known, but she also displays flashes of acting skill. more
New York Post Kyle Smith
Footloose won me over early, with a sequence in which the hero gets all heavy metal while restoring his badass ... VW Bug. more
San Francisco Chronicle Mick LaSalle
The new Footloose does everything it needs to do. It's a vibrant youth musical that will appeal to audiences who haven't seen the 1984 original. And it has enough charm and life to it to compete with the memory of the earlier version. more
Portland Oregonian Shawn Levy
It hardly needs to hang its head around the original, and it bolsters Brewer's standing as a talent of note. more
Austin Chronicle Marjorie Baumgarten
Finally, along comes a remake  a darn faithful one, too  that's not a just a pointless rehash or mindless retread. more
The A.V. Club Nathan Rabin
Brewer's Footloose has sex, swagger, and even an edge of danger, but in the end, he's hamstrung by the project's innate ridiculousness. more
New Orleans Times-Picayune Mike Scott
Plotwise, though, Brewer's Footloose is anything but loose. In fact, it's rigidly loyal to the original, to the point of slavishness. more
Washington Post Ann Hornaday
Footloose never needed to be dragged into the 21st century, but Brewer has made it look and sound a little bit more like the real world. more

I know, it's a classic 80s teen movie, but I don't think it's all that great, personally. I mean who cares if they outlaw dancing? There are lots of other fun things to do. Other than the silly plot, I liked this movie, the actors are good, and there's some good music in the movie too. I just can't get over the plot. more

It was okay altogether, but its obvious allure was dance and rebellion. Nowadays everything in film seems demure. Every day. The concept is sometimes lost on my generation. Doesn't damage the great quality of the film though. more

Lori Singer is still hot..lol Classic movie 80's movle with still one of the best movie soundtracks to come out of the 80.'s. And one of the first movies i saw under age in the cinema......o yes its good to be bad....lol more

Ah, the innocence of first love -- and love of dance. I saw this for the first time in 2008 which is pretty bad - 25 years after it was made. Too bad that Lori Singer only had a 10 year career as an actress. more

I saw this movie in the theatre on opening night. I still enjoy watching it. The acting in this movie is great, and the storyline is top notch as well. I think the movie represents the attitudes in small town America as they were. I know of many cases in real life that were a lot like this plot, but in real life the protagonists faired worse than Kevin Bacon. I have heard a lot of bad reviews about this movie from people who watch it today. Mostly because it is a "white" film with almost no racial diversity considering the subject matter. Well, you have to look at the social and cultural... more

Herbert Ross' "Footloose" is one of those feel good flicks from the 80s that has dated at about twice the rate of most films from other decades. Its story is based in fact: that of a town ordinance that banned any form of public dancing. When Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon) arrives with his family he can barely contain his distemper over the outdated law. He's young, rebellious and full of energy that just needs to be expressed. Together with the rest of the town's high school brethren, Ren resolves to challenge the law and its most ardent supporter, Rev. Shaw Moore - who lost his only son... more
