San Francisco Chronicle Mick LaSalle
One great monster movie.
Empire Caroline Westbrook
So the script and the performances aren't exactly Oscar material, but it scarcely matters given that the real stars here are the ILM-created dinosaurs, a miracle of modern moviemaking. more
Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman
As a flight of fantasy, Jurassic Park lacks the emotional unity of Spielberg's classics ("Jaws," "Close Encounters," "E.T."), yet it has enough of his innocent, playful virtuosity to send you out of the theater grinning with delight. more
Rolling Stone Peter Travers
Colossal entertainment -- the eye-popping, mind-bending, kick-out-the-jams thrill ride of summer and probably the year. more
Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
The movie delivers all too well on its promise to show us dinosaurs. We see them early and often, and they are indeed a triumph of special effects artistry, but the movie is lacking other qualities that it needs even more, such as a sense of awe and wonderment, and strong human story values. more
ReelViews James Berardinelli
The biggest weakness of the novel is characterization, and the same flaw is fully evident in the screen adaptation. more
TV Guide Staff (Non Credited)
An exhilarating, sometimes terrifying monster of a movie that, once it gets you in its clutches, won't put you down again until the closing credits start to roll. more
Variety Staff (Not Credited)
Spielberg's scary and horrific thriller may be one-dimensional and even clunky in story and characterization, but definitely delivers where it counts, in excitement, suspense and the stupendous realization of giant reptiles. more
Washington Post Rita Kempley
A dumbed-down adaptation of Michael Crichton's techno-novel on the dangers of dinosaur cloning, it's not Spielberg at the top of his game, but it's dino-mite just the same. more
Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov
I continually found myself longing for the sheer intensity of the director's past glories, like Jaws, or even Duel. Spielberg seems to be trying so very hard for that elusive “Gosh, Wow, Sense of Wonder!” that it all looks strained in spots. more

Out of all the dinosaur movies of the 90s, this is the best, and most popular film. It's got everything, action, adventure, excitement, scary dinosaurs, comedy, and a bit of romance too. I love this movie, and I highly recommend it. more

I saw this one again, what a great movie! They just don't make em like this anymore! (impossible because everything is possible in movies nowadays). I appreciate it even more because I understand it better. Every person in it represents a different viewpoint. When you're 12 years old, you just don't get that. Shit, it's been 17 years ago already! loved Goldblum's character. more

Stephen Speilberg was able to make probably one of the most groundbreaking movies of all time using a subject that no one gets tired of hearing about, Dinosaurs. He brought back to life some of the most beautiful animals and takes your breath away. This still has some of the best cgi effects ever done and definitely the best animatronic work. He used the darkness to his advantage and that made for some terrifying shots. I still say that he should've done more horror movies because he certainly know how to get to people. It's a great adaption of Crichton's novel, using the best material and... more

Jurassic Park is probably the best 'creature feature'/'Blockbuster' since Jaws, which was obviously bought to us by the same beard. Spielberg doing what he does best with brilliant special effects that are still as good if not better than in recent films and a fantastic cast. One of my favourite cinema experiences! more

I'm outing my girlfriend: she had never seen this movie. Fifteen years later, I get her the trilogy box set as a Christmas gift, and I watch something I've seen 20+ times for the first time myself in oh I don't know, 10 years...? A few things I noticed this time through: -it's incredibly kid-friendly -the merchandise in the park gift shop looks incredibly ironic: at once self-promoting and satirical, especially when one considers just how much money this franchise has made... did Spielberg mean to do that...? It's all product shots the studio had to include to sell products to kids, but... more

Michael Crichton's book becomes a CGI reality in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park. The film is about a billionaire that develops and builds a theme park around the dinosaurs he has created from DNA captured in fossilized mosquitos. The dream park quickly turns into a nightmare as the dinosaurs begin to run havoc throughout the malfunctioning park. This was the first big, realistic looking CGI film and that was the big draw to this film upon release, but it contains an interesting story that keeps you in the film longer than computerized eye candy ever would. It's the typical Spielberg... more
