Rolling Stone Peter Travers
A dynamite bundle from British writer-director Guy Ritchie. Even when the accents are as indecipherable as the plot, Ritchie keeps the action percolating and the humor on high. more
The A.V. Club Joshua Klein
The acting, mostly by a bunch of unknowns, is equally fresh and funny, and Ritchie keeps the movie moving faster than you can say, "bludgeoned to death by a 15-inch black rubber dildo." more
Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan
Dark, dangerous and a great deal of wicked, amoral fun. A film that manages to be as clever, playful and mock violent as its title, Lock, Stock was a major hit in its native Britain and its cheeky tone, simultaneously calculated and off the cuff, is as hip as anyone could want.
Austin Chronicle Marc Savlov
With such a frenetic, brain-melting load of images to ponder, it's easy to forget that there are also some terrific actors at work here, not the least of whom is the amazing Vinnie Jones. more
ReelViews James Berardinelli
It's a superior thriller made with the guts and gusto that too many recycled entries into the genre fail to exhibit. more
TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
Ritchie appears to have been paying attention to what made "Reservoir Dogs" (a huge hit in the UK) work, rather than coming away convinced that the formula for success begins and ends with pop-culture allusions and scarcely digested "homages" to classic crime films. more
Film Threat Ron Wells
Lock is filled with great writing, great acting, colorful characters, and a tight story. I actually like this film more than "Pulp Fiction". more
New York Magazine Peter Rainer
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is in the scabrous mode, and I like it better than "Trainspotting" -- it doesn't pretend its shenanigans are revolutionary. more
Washington Post Desson Thomson
A special weapon unto itself. Spring-loaded with cockney esprit, it peppers its audience with aggressive, sarcastic grapeshot. That's English for "fun," by the way. more
Washington Post Stephen Hunter
A considerable kick, though it would have helped if one of the boys had wiped off the lens of the camera once in a while. more

Ritchie uses almost every known British character actor/soap star for his gang romp revolving around the simple premise of some guys owing a gang boss a large amount of money. The cast is impressive you gotta admit, of course you gotta be British to probably get the most from it but the collection of oddballs and gangsters are all so well cast and played it just shoves the seedy, gritty, dirty, 'Del boy' London grim in your face perfectly. There is certainly a Tarantino style going on throughout as the story tends to twist n turn amongst all the dreary looking locations, the whole film... more

Just an all around amazing movie. I can't think of a time where the movie isn't either making you laugh or giving you a perfect heist storyline. It's one of the ultimate pulp tales of all time and nothing short of brilliance. It improves upon everything done in Pulp Fiction and makes it more than a criticism of pop culture violence and storytelling. Guy Ritchie's directing is a lot more humble, stylish and fun. The writing is rich and full, but without anything too heavy handed or outlandish. Vinnie Jones was one of my favorite aspects of the entire movie, his relentlessness knew no bounds... more

Outrageously funny, stylish and original. Hysterical and brilliant. A barrels blazing good time. Non-stop fun. A brilliant crime comedy that packs plenty of twist, colorful characters and unraveling plot. Director, Guy Richie is a gifted and talented filmmaker that guides a very talented and charming cast. A wicked soundtrack. Loaded with bullets, great laughs and terrific surprises. You wont be able to get enough of this flick because it's so much fun. more

This is not a great British film, its crap like this that damage the British film industry in my opinion. It's full of dodgy accents and represents no one who actually lives in London. It's only saving grace is some rather good cinematography. more

John: Ah! Shit! I've been shot! Dog: I don't fuckin' believe this, can everyone stop gettin' shot. The first movie from Guy Ritchie. It mixes the cult classic qualities from a Tarantino movie with the music video editing style of today's flashy videos. It is filled with the dry, dialog driven English-styled humor and a healthy dose of cockney slang as well as dark comedy involving incompetent criminals. Eddie: They're armed. Soap: What was that? Armed? What do you mean armed? Armed with what? Eddie: Err, bad breath, colorful language, feather duster... what do you think they're gonna be... more

If you own the previous edition of Lock, Stock you might really want think about if it is worth double-dipping. The transfer for this one is as good if not slightly worse than the previous 2003 release. There are only two (slight) new extras on this edition. "One Smoking Camera" features the film's cinematographer talking about how he shot the film. He takes us through a few key sequences and shows how they were shot or edited. Finally, there is "Lock, Stock and Two F**king Barrels," a montage of colourful insults and curse words used throughout the film by various cast members. Why the... more
