The super popular action sci-fi comedy of 97. Sure it was fun for a while, but this movie wasn't all that great really. It's humor is stupid, and there are so many other sci-fi comedies that are better. Overall it's an okay movie, though. more

The definition of weird 90s movies. This, however, embraced that idea and made for a great experience. The comedy is so well done and perfectly layered that you don't feel beaten to death. It also remains as one of the last buddy cop movies, which is really sad to see go away. This tackled the issue of Aliens in such an odd and unique fashion, but in a way that could be related to our world. I really love the Twilight Zone vibe it has with the agency and overly mysterious characters/sub-plots. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are a great team and had some great chemistry together. I also love Vincent D'Onofrio's cockroach/body-snatching performance, he always ups the crazy factor in a movie. This is not perfect or flawless, but it's just so much fun and enjoyable. It respects the Sci-fi genre instead of making it a joke, which is why it is so effective. more

Few movies take me back to my childhood like Men in Black does. I used to absolutely love this movie, and I basically had every word of dialogue memorized, at one point. It's still mostly as fun and funny as I remember, from when I first went to the movies to see it in the late 90's. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones really make a great on-screen team. They play off each other flawlessly, and I couldn't picture any other actors playing the roles of J and K. The story isn't exactly amazing, but the special effects and alien designs still hold up pretty well, today. Men in Black has aged very well, and is still an enjoyable sci-fi action comedy. more

I loved this movie when it came out and when Will Smith was just about the coolest guy ever. It's not the movie's fault, and Will's still pretty cool - personally and sartorially - but MIB's cool kinda wears off with subsequent viewings. more

Kay: All right, kid, here's the deal. At any given time there are approximately 1500 aliens on the planet, most of them right here in Manhattan. And most of them are decent enough, they're just trying to make a living. Jay: Cab drivers? Kay: Not as many as you'd think. A "Big Willie Weekend" summer blockbuster that works as a very enjoyable sci fi comedy about a secret organization monitoring extra terrestrial life on earth. Will Smith plays an NYPD officer recruited by Tommy Lee Jones to become a member of the Men In Black. Smith is then introduced to a world behind the scenes of reality, in which aliens occupy about as much space as humans do on the planet. This leads to a number of funny sequences poking fun at regular life. The main plot involves a particular alien causing some trouble, leading to the MIB having to do their thing to protect the earth from the scum of the universe. Director Barry Sonnenfield does a great job at balancing the fun and the creative visuals seen throughout. Danny Elfman's score only adds to finding the right tone. Of course, having a producer like Steven Spielberg at your back gives you the ability to make good use of your premise, and here there are plenty of wonderful alien and set creations that add to the movie's charm. Things such as the concept for the villain and the MIB headquarters are very cool and a lot of fun. Jay: Zed, don't you guys ever get any sleep around here? Zed: The twins keep us on Centaurian time, standard thirty-seven hour day. Give it a few months. You'll get used to it... or you'll have a psychotic episode. It also helps that Smith and Jones are well suited to their roles. Smith of course gets in his one-liners, which work because of his immense charisma as an actor. Jones plays his role straight up, which is especially effective in a flick like this, where he can combine the behavior of his character in The Fugitive with the dialog here surrounding alien life. Zed, we have a bug. more

And I quote...I think... A lot of big-budget special-effects films are a hair this side of self-parody and don't know it. "Men in Black" knows it and glories in it... This is not a film about superheroes, but the adventures of a couple of hard-working functionaries whose assignment is to keep tabs on the sizable alien population of the United States... fatally. This movie continues the tradition, already established by "Con Air" and "Batman and Robin," of big-budget action pictures that at least have the wit to know how silly they are... more

Wow! This limited edition isn't limited in features. Disc one has the wide and full screen versions, visual commentry with Barry Sonnenfeld and Tommy Lee Jones and a technical audio commentry with Sonnenfeld, Rick Baker & the ILM team; this feature is exclusive to the limited edition version. Throw in the standards like the sound setups: English 5.1, english 2-channel (Dolby Surround) and french (Dolby Surround) and subtitles that include english, french, spanish, cantonese and mandarin, and that wraps up disc one! Disc Two is loaded! I can't list them all or I will use up all my space, so I will list the major ones. There is a 3 scene editing workshop which allows you to become the filmmaker, so to speak. You get to edit 3 chosen scenes that were filmed in a lot of different angles and then watch the final cut. Sonnenfeld will also descibe his own editing process. Next, there is a Edgar bug fight scene deconstruction using different angles. Then you have "concept to creation" creatures feature and art and production photo gallery. There are extended & deleted scenes, storyboard comparisons, a documentary, a music video, DVD & web links, trailers, talent files and more! Whew! I said there was a lot, and as you can see, I wasn't exaggerating. Throw in a booklet and letter from Sonnenfeld and small poster which may be signed by the artists and you have a DVD with enough features to keep you entertained and busy. Quickly, the transfer was beautiful and, of course, the movie is great. This movie was one of my favorite Will Smith roles. Aside from the comedy woven into the script, the special effects were great! This is a must have for any fan of the movie or comic book! Enjoy! more

Don't expect any psychological depth here, but the cool wit and fun... are deftly maintained, and Sonnenfeld provides a bountiful supply of both fanciful beasties and ingenious visuals. more

When the plot finally does click in, it slows down the trajectory a little, but not fatally. more
