It's a scrumptious and dizzy-spirited lark, a what-the-hell-let's-rob-the-casino flick made with so much wit and brains and dazzle and virtuosity that the sheer speed and cleverness of the caper hits you like a shot of pure oxygen. more
Film Threat Michael Dequina
Soderbergh's film will be remembered less for the (inspired) star casting than for being one expertly made piece of pure, unpretentious popcorn entertainment. more

Forget Oscar, Ocean's Eleven is the coolest damned thing around. more

Depends on comic timing so precise that it seems weightless and all but effortless. And it depends on performers, of course, who can do a comic turn just as readily as a deft writer can turn a phrase. In that department, Ocean's Eleven is at least 11 times blessed.
Washington Post Michael O'Sullivan
One thoroughbred of a movie. Sleek, well-muscled and brisk, director Steven Soderbergh's newest offering delivers just about everything anyone could possibly want from filmed entertainment -- except deep thought. more
Seattle Post-Intelligencer William Arnold
If the new Ocean's Eleven is mostly Clooney's show, he's more than up to the task of carrying it. Indeed, this could be his career-defining role: The twinkle in his eye has never seemed more disreputable, his devil-may-care charm has never seemed so appealing, and he dominates the movie with the graceful ease of a Golden Age Hollywood star. more

Together, they (Clooney and Gould) threaten to sneak off with the movie when Soderbergh isn't looking, sowing madness and sex appeal in their wake. more
New York Magazine Peter Rainer
The movie, in a very real sense, is about the privilege, the sexiness, of being a movie star. Certainly it isn't about the heist; never was. more
L.A. Weekly Manohla Dargis
The most purely entertaining movie to come out of Hollywood so far this year, and if that doesn't seem worthy of Soderbergh's talents, it's worthy enough for a night's amusement. more
Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan
A champagne bubble of a movie, lively, effervescent and diverting. If it bursts earlier than we'd like -- and it does -- that takes nothing away from the considerable pleasure it provides along the way. more

Danny Ocean: Why waste those cute little tricks that the Army taught us just because it's sort of peaceful now. The first big movie to feature the original Rat Pack. Its a caper flick that has of course been remade into a hipper (and better) film, but this is still enjoyable. Its basically an excuse for these guys to hang around with each other, bouncing off ad-libbed one-liners, and getting to have fun in Vegas. Vince Massler: If it's so fool-proof, why hasn't somebody done it yet. Danny Ocean: Same reason nobody's gone to the moon yet - no equipment. Jimmy Foster: And we're equipped. more

Oh my God! I forgot--there was a movie I shut off before the end and this was it! I was like Malcolm McDowell in Clockwork Orange when they ran the conditioning on him! This was one of the biggest pieces of shit ever and I couldn't get through it! I hate this movie in ways that can only be properly expressed through acts of mayhem and violence. I think I came to the realization that if I wanted to see a bunch of douchebags get drunk and hang out I could do that with my own friends. The boozy ballads and shit-stained self-indulgence were way too much and it went on f o r e v e r. This was... more

A great plot and a great cast. It is probably the most well acted comedy in existence. As far as heist movies, it has everything you could ask for. There's action, suspense and drama. The ensemble approach really paid off with this because everyone worked so well together. Steven Soderbergh was a great choice to direct, he brought a real legitimacy to the film. more

Danny: There's a ninety-five pound Chinese man with a hundred sixty million dollars behind this door. Linus: Let's get him out. The movie that gave me the idea of movies that "ooze with cool." This is a very fun movie. Despite the fact that it is based on a heist, with twists along the way, I enjoy watching it everytime with no remorse for knowing what will happen. Rusty: The Bellagio and the Mirage. These are Terry Benedict's places. Danny: Yes they are. You think he'll mind? Rusty: More than somewhat. Soderbergh directs a very stylish caper movie that is filled with a great ensemble cast... more

"Ocean's Eleven" is a Ferrari of a movie: cool, stylish, and classy. And if, like a Ferrari, it doesn't always work, that's OK - who will complain when it's so stylish? The premise is lifted right out of the 1960 Rat Pack original: Danny Ocean (George Clooney, suave as hell) is released from prison, and plots to steal over $163 million from the vault of a Las Vegas casino during a heavyweight fight. He recruits his old buddy Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt), and they put together a dream team of crooks, each of whom has a specialty. There's a computer geek, a demolition expert, a con man, a... more

I've got to admit, half the fun of this movie is the star-gazing. George Clooney is great as a convict recently released from jail, Brad Pitt is Mr. Suave as his right-hand man, and Julia Roberts plays the icy ex-wife beautifully. Throw in Matt Damon as a pick-pocket and Andy Garcia as a casino mogul and you've got the gist of this movie's star power. The plot is pretty simple: Danny Ocean (Clooney) organizes a group of eleven highly skilled criminals to simultaneously rob three of Vegas' biggest casinos. Their plans are over the top and outrageous-and you can't help but smile watching... more
