Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert
What is most amazing about this film is how completely Spielberg serves his story. The movie is brilliantly acted, written, directed and seen. Individual scenes are masterpieces of art direction, cinematography, special effects, crowd control. more
Chicago Tribune Gene Siskel
What is surprising is how well Spielberg captures the horror, moving his camera with the fury of a combat photographer on the run.
ReelViews James Berardinelli
Because this film touches us so deeply, the catharsis has a power that few -- if any -- other moments in film history can match. And that's what establishes this as a transcendent motion picture experience. more
TV Guide Staff (Not Credited)
Director Steven Spielberg has achieved something close to the impossible--a morally serious, aesthetically stunning historical epic that is nonetheless readily accessible to a mass audience. more
Empire Kim Newman
Overall this film is truly a triumph, its greatness being revealed in its tiny moments - the close-up of a swastika badge that introduces Neeson or the bungled defiance of Fiennes at his hanging. more
Entertainment Weekly Owen Gleiberman
Spielberg restages the Holocaust with an existential vividness unprecedented in any nondocumentary film: He makes us feel as if we're living right inside the 20th century's darkest-and most defining-episode. more
Variety Staff (Not Credited)
Evinces an artistic rigor and unsentimental intelligence unlike anything the world's most successful filmmaker has demonstrated before. more
Austin Chronicle Marjorie Baumgarten
The movie's ending at the train station and the modern-day epilogue feel protracted and indulgent...Apart from the ending though, this is Spielberg's most articulate movie ever. more
The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Rick Groen
A powerful and affecting piece of work. more
Rolling Stone Peter Travers
Schindler's List, despite blatant compromises, is a rending historical document. But the film's near-certain victory is based less on merit than on the marketing of its ambitious intentions. The academy doesn't judge movies, it weighs them by subject matter. On that basis, Spielberg's epic tips the scales. more

Spielberg's magnum opus and, by my poor reckoning, the work for which he'll longest be remembered for (at least to date) and one of the best ever made. The incomprehensible despair, inhumanity and savagery of presumed righteousness versus the frailty of human hope vividly rendered. Unforgettable. more

It's disturbing, painful and unforgettable. This is the biopic of Oskar Schindler,an opportunistic businessman whose initial intention was to exploit the war, but eventually end up spending everything he owned, protecting the victims of war. Spielberg gives a gut-wrenching rendition of the torture, fear and despair the Jews had to face in the German occupied Poland. The metaphorical red girl, lying in a pile of bodies, recognizable only by the color of her dress, is an image that viewers wont be able to get out of their head for a long time. more

A wonderful work crafted with so much love and dedication by everyone involved. Spielberg's direction is outstanding as he successfully recreates the abject horrors of the Holocaust in a deeply sad and disturbing film, very well-photographed in black-and-white, with a story that is fascinating due to the complexity of Schindler's character. more

This is perhaps the most personal that Steven Speilberg has ever gotten with his projects, you can feel that he cared deeply about the plot and message. It's his most stylish looking film, but I can't help but think he chose black and white just for the sake of doing so. The acting is phenominal, especially from Ralph Fiennes. It's an essential part of Spielberg's career and one that shouldn't be missed. more
Rotten Tomatoes Emile T
Schindler's List may happen to be the most well made movie I have ever laid my eyes on. I can now say openly that I've watched most of modern classics. So everybody, if you haven't seen this movie yet, run as soon as possible and procure yourself the Steven Spielberg's best film DVD. Or else, you're missing something. Schindler's List is definitely one of the most important movies of our generation. Truly. During the Word War II, Oskar Schindler owns a metalurgy factory, and tries for years to find employers. Oskar Schindler wants money. When he bravely manages to get a thousand jews and... more

Spielberg directed this with passon and it shows on screen.Using black and white film making makes this feel realistic. This are great performances from liam neeson, ralph fiennes and ben kingsley.A truly horrifly watch in some places and heart melting moment too, this is one of spielberg best mature movies to date.. more
