Slant Magazine Jaime N. Christley
A moment's patience is soon rewarded by Anderson's vast store of rich, intoxicating imagery. more
Empire Dan Jolin
Stupid, with three o's. But also fun, never boring, and never insulting (to anyone other than Dumas) - unlike certain of the summer's A-pics… more
Entertainment Weekly Keith Staskiewicz
It floats, but it's mainly filled with hot air. more
Boxoffice Magazine Sara Maria Vizcarrondo
Trash-action director Paul W.S. Anderson's (Alien vs. Predator) finds no cultural purpose for this rather literal adaptation of the Musketeers, but it's not so horrible it deserved to be protected from the cold eye of film critics. more
Variety Leslie Felperin
A very 2011 take on Alexandre Dumas' classic that feels weirdly dated already. Although adequately entertaining thanks to lavish production values and game supporting perfs, this anodyne adaptation lacks a killer hook that would help it cross over to a demographic beyond action buffs and fanboys. more
The A.V. Club Keith Phipps
Beyond being unable to decide what kind of Musketeers movie it wants to be, Anderson's adaptation seems determined to underachieve as both heavy spectacle and light adventure. It's two mediocrities for the price of one. more
Austin Chronicle Kimberley Jones
Still, once you accept Paul W.S. Anderson's entirely unnecessary adaptation on its own terms (nonsensical, underachieving), it has its limited charms, which include a snigger-inducing alphabet soup of accents, a standout rooftop swordfight, and British comedian James Corden as the Musketeers' put-upon manservant. more
Time Out New York Ben Kenigsberg
Muskets and swords are a bit old-fashioned for the director of "Resident Evil" - Paul W.S. Anderson has added flying battleships and elaborate diamond heists. (With material as shopworn as this, an anachronizing approach seems as valid as any.) more
The Hollywood Reporter Neil Young
3D swashbuckler wields a disappointingly blunt sword. more
The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Liam Lacey
All the borderline pantomime acting and wigged buffoonery is deliberate and silly, but The Three Musketeers remains charmless, a romp brought down by its lead-footed script. more

One of the staples of my childhood, this movie is still really awesome though. Sure it's a little corny and it makes no sense that everyone has either American accents or outrageous French ones, but it doesn't matter when you have such a dynamite plot, visuals and characters. Chris O'Donnell is overly earnest as D'Artagnan, but that's kind've why it's such a charming character. Kiefer Sutherland, OLiver Platt and Charlie Sheen are extremely bizarre in their roles, but I really don't see it being anything else. Where the movie truly excels is with it's diabolical villains. Tim Curry is too... more

Pure enjoyment. A marvelous crowd pleaser. You'll love it and want to see it again and again. A hilarioulsly funny and endlessly wild, action-packed adventure. Lots of exhilerating fun. The cast is fantastic. Great performances all around. A tremendous rollar-coaster ride filled with action, humor and heart. A wonderfful classic. more

I'm a huge fan of just about everything musketeers related (look at my other reviews), and this is my favorite big screen adaptation. Kelly is easlily the most fun D'Artagnon to watch and the sword play in this movie is excellent with his athleticism. Of course, anyone who read the novel would know that though it includes sword play it is the charaters and plot that move the story along, so in that respect this movie does a much better job than most Musketeer adaptations. It stays fairly close to the original plot and though there is little time spent developing their personalities the... more

This is a fun film full of action and comedy. The players are wonderful - Gene Kelly as D'Artagnan, Van Heflin as Athos, Gig Young as Porthos, Lana Turner as Milady DeWinter, June Allyson as Constance, Vincent Price as Cardinal Richelieu and more. Kelly is delightfully acrobatic, jumping around as if his legs were coiled springs, swinging on ropes, fencing like a master - he is a joy to watch - he puts Erroll Flynn to shame. Van Heflin and Gig Young are perfect as his comrades - brave, dashing, as well as foolish and impetuous. Lana Turner is the beautiful and dangerous Milady DeWinter who... more

When D'Artagnan (Gene Kelly), a brilliant swordsman, left his Gasgon village, in 1625, with a letter to Monsieur De Treville, captain of the King's Musketeers (Reginald Owen), he didn't expect to have in his first day, three duels with the three best swordsmen in Paris: Athos (Van Heflin), Porthos (Gig Young), and Aramis (Robert Coote). But as the duels were forbidden in Paris by Cardinal Richelieu, Chief Minister to King Louis XIII, D'Artagnan had to challenge, first, Jussac, captain of the Guard (Saul Gorss). The duel, under Tchaikowsky themes, was hilarious and explosive, with great... more

Silent movie fans will be delighted with this swashbuckling tale starring the one and only Douglas Fairbanks! Set in France of long ago, this film uses elaborate costumes, wonderful sets and a hoard of extras. Fairbanks IS Dartanion as he sword fights his way into the Musketeers with bavery, arrogance and that wonderful touch of humor that seems to sparkle through his films. Spectacular stunts (done by the man himself), a wild chase scene and a supporting cast including Eugene Paulette (before he became rotund) and Adolph Menjou make this a silent screen classic everyone will enjoy!
